Job Description

Job Summary:

The Head Cashier is responsible for handling day-to-day cash transactions, deposit cash in bank and ensuring accurate record-keeping of all financial transactions in accordance with the company's policies and procedures.

This role ensures that all transactions are processed accurately, cash and financial records are properly maintained, and internal controls are followed. The Head Cashier plays a key role in ensuring daily cash flow management and supports the finance team in reconciliation and reporting tasks.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Receive and process collections (cash, cheques, credit cards, bank transfers) from customers.
  • Issue receipts, refunds, and change to customers accurately.
  • Maintain daily cash balances and reconcile cash at the end of each day. Reconcile daily cash reports, bank deposits, and register tapes to ensure accuracy and accountability.
  • Deposit cash and cheques to the bank and maintain related documentation. Ensure timely bank deposits and monitor any bounced cheques or transaction anomalies.
  • Ensure proper documentation and filing of all cash-related transactions.
  • Coordinate with the sales and accounting departments for payment verification and clearance.
  • Assist in preparing daily, weekly, and monthly cash reports.
  • Train, mentor, and evaluate cashier staff to ensure high performance and adherence to procedures
  • Ensure compliance with financial policies and procedures.
  • Report discrepancies or unusual transactions to the Chief Accountant immediately.
  • Maintain a clean and organized cash handling area.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in cash handling, with at least 1-2 years in a supervisory or head cashier role, preferably in a trading or commercial environment.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and cash control procedures.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel; experience with accounting/ERP systems is an advantage.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • High attention to detail and integrity.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
