Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Oracle Database Administrator (DBA) with a strong background in database access controls, auditing, privilege management, and security process design. The ideal candidate will help us build and document a new process to audit, monitor, and secure database access, including implementing password rotation, privilege reviews, and automated monitoring mechanisms using modern Oracle 19c capabilities.

This is a hands-on role requiring strong technical depth, the ability to interrogate and analyse database connections and privileges, and experience implementing best practices aligned with security and compliance needs.

Key Responsibilities

1. Database Access & Security

  • Analyse, design, and implement database access controls, including user management, roles, and least-privilege models.
  • Review and validate existing accounts, privileges, grants, and authentication methods.
  • Implement secure mechanisms for password rotation, credential storage, and access lifecycle management.
  • Monitor and report on unusual database access patterns and potential security gaps.

2. Auditing & Compliance

  • Design, implement, and document a new auditing process for Oracle databases, focusing on:
    • User activity monitoring
    • Privilege usage tracking
    • Access logs and anomaly detection
  • Leverage Oracle 19c audit features such as:
    • Unified auditing
    • Fine-grained auditing (FGA)
    • Database Vault (if enabled)
  • Provide audit reports to internal security, compliance, and technology leadership teams.

3. Process Documentation & Governance

  • Create detailed documentation covering:
    • Access models
    • Audit workflows
    • Password rotation processes
    • Monitoring procedures and escalation paths
  • Work with cross-functional teams (Security, Compliance, DevOps, Infra) to embed new processes into BAU operations.

4. Implementation & Technical Ownership

  • Implement the proposed access/audit solution depending on timelines and project priorities.
  • Configure and tune audit policies for minimal performance overhead and maximum visibility.
  • Work with development and operations teams to validate application-to-database connections.
  • Ensure alignment with Oracle 19c best practices and modern features/technology.

Technical Skills

  • 6+ years Oracle DBA experience, with strong knowledge of Oracle 19c.
  • Expertise in:
    • User/Role/Privilege management
    • Unified Auditing & FGA
    • Database Vault / Transparent Data Encryption (TDE)
    • SQL & PL/SQL scripting
    • Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM)
  • Experience interrogating:
    • Database connections
    • Service accounts
    • Privilege escalations
    • Session/session history
  • Familiarity with modern security tooling or integration (SIEM, identity platforms, audit log exporters).

Security & Compliance Skills

  • Experience designing or supporting:
    • Access review processes
    • Password rotation workflows
    • Audit trails and regulatory reporting
  • Ability to work in environments requiring strong data governance and compliance.

Soft Skills

  • Strong documentation and process design capabilities.
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Proactive approach to identifying risks and recommending improvements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) – 19c or 12c.
  • Experience with cloud-hosted Oracle environments (OCI/Azure/AWS).
  • Knowledge of identity platforms (CyberArk, Azure AD, etc.) for DB password rotation.
  • Exposure to DevOps CI/CD integration for database security automation.
