Senior DB Engineer – PostgreSQL (NCS/Job/ 4088)

Provide L2 operational support for PostgreSQL environments across cloud and enterprise platforms. Responsibilities include incident troubleshooting, replication monitoring, backup validation, migration execution support, patch implementation and operational health checks. 

Engagement Context 

Engagement Context: Database Platform Support is a managed L1/L2 operations engagement supporting SQL Server, Azure SQL, PostgreSQL and Oracle. The support model is 24x7 including weekends and focuses on monitoring, incident triage, operational tasks, backup monitoring, change support, vulnerability remediation support, SOP/playbook execution and timely escalation to L3/Engineering for non-SOP or design-level work. 

Mandatory Skills 

• 4–6 years PostgreSQL administration/support experience 

• Backup/recovery and replication monitoring experience 

• Understanding of PostgreSQL logs, WAL, vacuum/analyze and performance diagnostics 

• Production support and incident management experience 

• Experience with migrations or deployment support 

• Willingness to work in 24x7 support model 

Good-to-Have Skills 

• Azure PostgreSQL or GCP PostgreSQL exposure 

• Shell/Python scripting 

• Experience with monitoring tools and ticketing systems 

• Knowledge of compliance/audit support 

Key Responsibilities 

Incident & Alert Support 

• Own PostgreSQL L2 tickets within agreed scope 

• Investigate availability, job failure, replication and performance alerts 

• Escalate L3 engineering issues with detailed analysis 

• Participate in major incident bridges when required 

Database Operations 

• Perform approved PostgreSQL operational activities 

• Validate backups and support restore/recovery tasks 

• Support patch/maintenance execution and validation 

• Support user/access administration based on approved requests 

Migration & Deployment Support 

• Support checklist execution and readiness validation 

• Assist with approved migration implementation steps 

• Perform post-deployment verification 

• Document risks, blockers and handoffs 

Knowledge & Reporting 

• Update SOPs/KEDB and operational documentation 

• Provide inputs for service reports and RCAs 

• Support continuous improvement and automation opportunities 

• Mentor junior DB engineers where applicable
