Senior DB Engineer - Azure SQL (NCS/Job/ 4089)

Role Purpose

Provide L2 database operations support for SQL Server and Azure SQL environments, including incident resolution, alert investigation, backup/recovery support, patch coordination, change execution, health checks and RCA support.

Engagement Context

Engagement Context: Database Platform Support is a managed L1/L2 operations engagement supporting SQL Server, Azure SQL, PostgreSQL and Oracle. The support model is 24x7 including weekends and focuses on monitoring, incident triage, operational tasks, backup monitoring, change support, vulnerability remediation support, SOP/playbook execution and timely escalation to L3/Engineering for non-SOP or design-level work.

Mandatory Skills

• 4–6 years SQL Server DBA/production support experience
• Experience with Azure SQL DB/Managed Instance support
• Incident, problem and change management experience
• Backup/recovery and database maintenance experience
• Performance troubleshooting for common issues
• Willingness to work in 24x7 shift operations

Good-to-Have Skills

• PowerShell/T-SQL scripting
• Knowledge of Always On/replication/log shipping
• Experience using Jira/ServiceNow, monitoring and alert tools
• Audit/compliance evidence collection

Key Responsibilities

Incident & Problem Management

• Own P2-P4 ticket resolution within L2 scope
• Investigate alerts, incidents and service disruptions
• Participate in major incident bridges as required
• Escalate L3/design issues with clear findings and evidence

Database Operations

• Perform approved database provisioning and operational changes
• Support backup validation, recovery requests and maintenance tasks
• Execute approved patching/pre-check/post-check tasks
• Support access management and operational troubleshooting

Monitoring & Health Checks

• Analyze CPU, memory, disk, job, availability and growth alerts
• Run health-check scripts and document findings
• Review failed jobs and backup failures
• Maintain ticket hygiene and timely updates

Support Activities

• Support migrations/deployments under approved runbooks
• Contribute to RCA documentation and problem reduction
• Update SOPs and KEDB articles
• Support weekly/monthly reporting inputs
