Role Purpose
Provide L1/L1.5 database operations support for SQL Server and Azure SQL environments in a 24x7 support model. The role focuses on monitoring, alert validation, ticket creation/updates, SOP-based troubleshooting, access requests and escalation to L2/SME teams.
Engagement Context
Engagement Context: Database Platform Support is a managed L1/L2 operations engagement supporting SQL Server, Azure SQL, PostgreSQL and Oracle. The support model is 24x7 including weekends and focuses on monitoring, incident triage, operational tasks, backup monitoring, change support, vulnerability remediation support, SOP/playbook execution and timely escalation to L3/Engineering for non-SOP or design-level work.
Mandatory Skills
- 2–3 years database/application production support experience
- Basic SQL Server and/or Azure SQL knowledge
- Experience with monitoring alerts and ticket updates
- Understanding of incident management and SLA-driven support
- Ability to follow SOPs/runbooks accurately
- Willingness to work across shifts/weekends
Good-to-Have Skills
- Jira/ServiceNow experience
- Basic T-SQL scripting
- Exposure to backup/job monitoring
- Good written communication and handoff discipline
Key Responsibilities
Monitoring & Alert Management
- Monitor database availability, CPU, memory, disk and job alerts
- Validate Concord/DX Console or approved monitoring alerts
- Create/route incidents for valid alerts
- Escalate unresolved or high-severity alerts to L2
Ticket & Incident Management
- Log, categorize and update Jira/ITSM tickets
- Maintain worklogs, priority, status and closure notes
- Perform initial triage using approved runbooks
- Coordinate with L2, SMEs and dependent teams
Operational Support
- Execute approved health-check scripts
- Perform SOP-based service checks and basic restarts where permitted
- Support backup monitoring and failed job checks
- Collect audit or operational evidence as instructed
Communication & Handoff
- Respond to Slack/Teams operational requests as per process
- Support xMatters/bridge notifications as required
- Provide clear shift handovers
- Update knowledge articles for repetitive issues
