Job Description
To develop, optimize, and release robust process plans for machining and assembly of mechanical components, ensuring manufacturability, productivity, and cost-effectiveness. The role bridges design, CAM programming, and shop-floor execution, with strong emphasis on machining process planning for multi-axis CNC machines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop detailed process plans, routing sheets, and operation sequences for machined components.
- Define machining strategy, operation order, cycle times, and inspection stages.
- Interpret CAD models, drawings, and GD&T for manufacturability and process feasibility.
- Coordinate with CAD/CAM programmers for CNC program generation, verification, and optimization.
- Support fixture design, tooling layouts, and work-holding concepts in line with process requirements.
- Prepare setup sheets, tooling lists, and shop documentation for smooth shop-floor execution.
- Conduct time studies, line balancing, and capacity planning to optimize resource usage.
- Validate new process plans with trial runs and provide support during first-off approvals.
- Lead continuous improvement activities for reducing cycle time, improving tool life, and lowering cost.
- Collaborate with design, production, quality, and supply chain teams to ensure smooth NPI (New Product Introduction).
- Monitor and ensure adherence to quality standards, customer requirements, and ISO/TS/IATF norms.
Required Skills & Competencies:
- Strong knowledge of process planning for machining and manufacturing operations.
- Good understanding of CNC machining (turning, milling, 3-5 axis) and manufacturing processes.
- Proficiency in reading engineering drawings, GD&T, and BOM structures.
- Exposure to CAD/CAM tools (CATIA, SolidCAM, Mastercam, or equivalent).
- Knowledge of tooling, fixtures, cutting parameters, and machining optimization.
- Familiarity with ERP/PLM systems for routing and process documentation.
- Lean manufacturing, Kaizen, and cost reduction methodology.
- Strong problem-solving and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Education & Experience:
- Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical, Production, or Industrial Engineering.
- 6–8 years of experience in Process Planning / Manufacturing Engineering / CAD-CAM process development.
- Experience in automotive, industrial machinery, or general engineering sectors (Aerospace is preferred).
- Hands-on exposure to machining high-precision components is a must.
