Job Description

We are seeking an experienced IT Operations Specialist to manage and support Visual Studio Code (VS Code) within the Windows environment. The role involves administration, maintenance, automation, and user support for VS Code while adhering to ITIL practices (Incident, Problem, and Change Management). The ideal candidate will bring 3–5 years of IT operations experience with strong expertise in scripting and application management.


Key Responsibilities

1. Administration of VS Code

  • Configure and manage VS Code settings, extensions, and workspace templates for development teams.

  • Standardize development environments using Dev Containers, WSL, or Remote SSH.

  • Integrate VS Code with source control systems (Git, GitHub, Azure DevOps).

  • Provide L1 support for developers (plugins, debugging, configuration issues).

  • Manage user profiles, extensions, themes, and keyboard shortcuts for consistency.

  • Monitor new VS Code features/extensions and evaluate for adoption.

  • Document configuration guidelines, best practices, and troubleshooting steps.

  • Support integration with CI/CD pipelines and code-quality tools.

2. Scripting & Automation

  • Develop and maintain automation scripts/tools to optimize developer workflows in VS Code.

  • Create/manage tasks, launch configurations, and custom extensions for build, debug, and deployment.

  • Automate repetitive tasks using Python or JavaScript/TypeScript.

  • Troubleshoot issues related to scripts, extensions, and configurations.

  • Collaborate with dev teams to identify automation opportunities.

  • Maintain documentation for scripting standards and automation procedures.

3. User Support & Training

  • Provide technical support for VS Code functionality and usability.

  • Conduct training sessions for developers on VS Code features and best practices.

4. Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain system documentation, processes, and procedures.

  • Generate usage and incident resolution reports (Excel, Power BI).

5. Collaboration & Communication

  • Partner with development, QA, and project management teams to ensure seamless VS Code integration.

  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders to deliver timely solutions.


Mandatory Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field.

  • 3–5 years of IT operations experience.

  • Strong knowledge of Windows OS.

  • Hands-on expertise with Visual Studio Code.

  • Scripting proficiency in Python and JavaScript/TypeScript.

  • Familiarity with ITIL practices (Incident, Problem & Change Management).

  • Proficiency in Excel and Power BI for analysis and reporting.

  • Excellent troubleshooting, communication, and interpersonal skills.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with other IDEs (Visual Studio, Eclipse, etc.).

  • Exposure to Linux and MacOS environments.

  • Understanding of Agile methodologies.

  • Knowledge of SCCM and Intune release management.
